MEAN WELL provided high-performance power supply and battery charging solutions to support the team as they designed, tested, and fine-tuned their latest high-performance electric race car, FPM-26, for the international Formula SAE Michigan competition.

Formula SAE challenges top university engineering teams from around the globe to design, build, and race formula-style vehicles. The competition evaluates not only track speed but also engineering design, cost efficiency, and overall system reliability under rigorous testing and extreme operating conditions.


         


Over Four Decades of Engineering Excellence

Established in 1984, Formule Polytechnique Montréal boasts over 40 years of rich engineering history and is widely recognized as one of North America's premier student racing teams. With a strong historical track record—including an overall 1st-place victory at FSAE EV Michigan in 2022 and a 2nd-place finish in 2024—FPM continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle design, battery management, and active aerodynamics.

Moving rapidly from advanced software simulations to physical track testing for the 2026 season, the team required highly reliable low-voltage (LV) auxiliary systems to maintain vehicle diagnostics, test sub-assemblies, and ensure peak performance during their high-stakes build phase.


    


MEAN WELL Product Application

To support the intricate low-voltage electronics, sensor networks, and field testing setups of the FPM-26 project, MEAN WELL supplied key power units tailored to the team's testing needs:

• Two units of GST360A24-C6P Adaptors: Delivered stable external power to run the vehicle's low-voltage electronics during pit debugging and bench testing without depleting the on-board battery across both race cars.
• ENC-360-24 Battery Charger: Provided safe, fast, and reliable charging for the team's custom 24V low-voltage Li-ion battery pack.
• RQB150W12-110S12 DC-DC Converter: Ensured precise voltage regulation and power stability for low-voltage sensor modules and sub-assembly testing.
