Industry: Architectural Lighting
Application: Centralized LED Lighting Control System
Power Solution: DHP-1UT-B 60VDC 12.8kW 19" Rack Power System

Modern architectural lighting systems increasingly use centralized LED control to simplify installation and maintenance across theaters, museums, hospitality spaces, and other large facilities. By placing power supply system and DC/DC LED drivers in a centralized service area, low-voltage power can be distributed to luminaires throughout the building while keeping major heat-generating and serviceable components away from public spaces. This architecture also helps reduce field wiring complexity and provides easier access for future maintenance.

Multiple-output DC/DC LED driver system provides centralized power and control multiple LED lighting fixtures. The system requires an external 60VDC power source with approximately 2–3kW of power capacity and is commonly installed in a standard 19-inch rack to support modular system expansion. When there are additional lighting zones needed, the 19-inch rack power system can be connected in parallel to expand the power without significantly increasing installation complexity.

To meet these requirements, MEAN WELL provided a 60VDC rack power solution using high-power modules and the DHP-1UT-B 1U 19-inch rack. Each power module delivers up to 3.2kW with up to 94.5% efficiency, while four modules provide up to 12.8kW of centralized DC power in a compact rack system.

The rack-based design offers several key advantages. First, the high efficiency of up to 94.5% reduces power loss and heat generation, helping achieve a compact, high-power-density rack design. Second, the modular architecture allows additional power modules to be added as system demand grows, providing flexible expansion. Third, hot-swap operation allows individual power modules to be replaced without interrupting system operation, simplifying maintenance and improving serviceability.
By combining centralized power distribution, high power density, modular expansion, and rack-level serviceability, MEAN WELL’s rack power solution provides a flexible power platform for large-scale architectural lighting systems. The power modules and DHP-1UT-B allow lighting designers and system integrators to centralize both power and control infrastructure while maintaining the flexibility to expand the system as project requirements evolve.
