A military water filtration system is designed to provide clean and safe water in remote locations where access to infrastructure is limited.
The system must feature a compact, mobile architecture and sustain continuous water-treatment operation under intermittent off-grid power availability from either generator or PV sources.
This creates a critical challenge: the filtration system needs to make use of available power when it is present, store enough energy for later use, and maintain water production when the power source is no longer available.
 

MEAN WELL’s NTN-5K series provides an all-in-one power conversion solution for the military water filtration system, combining battery charging, AC bypass power delivery, and inverter backup functionality within a single platform.
When AC input power is available, the NTN-5K can charge the system battery bank while simultaneously supplying AC power to the filtration equipment and auxiliary AC outlets. This allows the system to make full use of available external power while restoring stored energy for later operation.
 

When the AC source is interrupted or no longer available, the NTN-5K automatically operates as a DC-AC inverter, drawing energy from the battery bank to continue powering the filtration system and other required AC loads.
The system utilizes two NTN-5K units configured for split-phase output, providing both 120Vac and 240Vac to support different equipment and field-load requirements. By integrating charging, power conversion, backup operation, and flexible AC output into a compact architecture, the NTN-5K helps simplify the overall power system while improving mobility and off-grid operating capability.
