Power Solution:  NSP-320-27

As Fitness Industry continues to integrate more electrical functions, including massage, motorized angle adjustment, ventilation, and heating, power supply selection becomes increasingly important. For products intended for residential use and global distribution, power supply inside must consider not only power performance and reliability, but also compact size, low acoustic noise, and international safety compliance.
 

For this massage chair project, the application required a compact power supply that could be installed inside limited furniture space while supporting sales to multiple countries. MEAN WELL’s NSP-320-27 was selected as the power solution. With a compact 179 × 99 × 30 mm design and an ultra-wide 85–305Vac input range, the NSP-320 series is well suited for space-limited and globally deployed equipment. It also carries multiple safety approvals covering household, ITE, medical, industrial, and energy-converter standards, helping simplify product development for different markets. For example, the massage chair is recognized as medical product in the US and considered as household product in EU, which NSP certified to both medical (ANSI/AAMI 60601-1) and household (EN60335-1) that satisfy both Regions.   

Because of a home use product, acoustic performance was another key consideration. The NSP-320 features fan ON/OFF control with typical fan noise of only 40 dB, helping reduce unnecessary operating noise and improve the end-user experience. Moreover, motor performance was also an important consideration for this application. The chair’s angle-adjustment functions rely on built-in motors, which can draw high starting currents when the actuators begin to move. The NSP-320-27 provides up to 200% peak power, enabling it to support these short-duration surge demands and ensure reliable motor startup and smooth angle adjustment.
By combining the NSP-320-27’s compact design, broad safety certification coverage, and low-noise operation with customer-specific assembly support, MEAN WELL provided a solution that met both the technical and production requirements of this smart furniture application.
