Industry: Robotics
Application: Charger
Power Solution: NPB-750-48
The MEAN WELL NPB-750-48 charger is a reliable, ultra-wide output range intelligent battery charger with digital control using automatic voltage detection. The output voltage is adjustable from 42V to 80V, supporting various battery types. With MEAN WELL’s SBP-001 programmer, users can configure voltage/current, set charging cycle time, and optimize battery life. The front-panel DIP switches allow adjustment of 2/3 stage charging, current (50–100%), and selection of four preset curves. The charger also supports CANBus for remote monitoring and control, and includes safety features such as reverse polarity protection. It meets IEC/EN/UL62368-1 and EN60335-1/-2-29 standards and comes with a 3-year warranty, ensuring safe and reliable performance. The NPB-750-48 is a smart, universal charger with excellent cost efficiency .
CUSTOMER PAIN POINTS:
-
Target charge profile: 58.8V/10A for a Li-ion pack managed by a BMS. Also, the system must allow “power-on first, connect the battery later” without the charger shutting down when no battery is present.
-
Two-stage charging only (CC/CV): Since the BMS governs protection and termination, the customer does not want FLOAT—or wants FLOAT held equal to CV so output voltage stays fixed at 58.8 V.
POWER SOLUTION:
-
Firmware optimization for hot-plug: The unit’s 5-second no-battery shutdown is for protecting equipment as well as user in case of electric shock, with the customer’s guarantee of the enclosed/protected working environment, we are able to disable this feature by firmware modification, allowing the charger to remain active after power-up so the battery can be connected later without interrupting operation.
-
Two-stage profile only: We configured the charging algorithm to CC→CV, removed FLOAT behavior by setting CV = FV = 58.8V, ensuring the output voltage is always held at 58.8V after reaching CV. Also, limited maximum output to 10A, aligning with the customer’s thermal design and BMS limits while preventing over-current stress.
CONCLUSION:
NPB-750-48 delivered a compact, intelligent, cost-efficient charging solution. With firmware tweaks, we enabled hot-plug, set CV = FV = 58.8V, and capped current at 10A, aligning with the customer’s BMS-controlled CC/CV strategy. Safety features, 42–80V adjustability, DIP-switch configurability, CANBus monitoring, and SBP-001 programmability ensured smooth integration. Certified to IEC/EN/UL62368-1 and EN60335-1/-2-29 with a 3-year warranty, the result is stable, predictable charging and improved battery life.
